Countdown timers

Add a countdown to a popup or bar, and what happens when it reaches zero.

A countdown shows the time left until an end date. Popups show it as boxes for days, hours, minutes and seconds. Announcement bars show it next to the message as DD:HH:MM:SS.

Add a countdown to a popup

In the editor, open Content & Offer → Urgency Countdown Timer:

Setting What it does
Show countdown clock Turns the countdown on.
End date and Time When the countdown reaches zero. Enter the time as HH:MM, for example 23:59. Without a time, noon is used.
Show unit labels (DAYS, HRS…) Shows the unit name under each number.
Box color and Number color Colors of the boxes and digits.

The date and time use the time zone of the computer you’re editing on.

The unit labels are set in your admin language when the campaign is created, and they can’t be edited. If they don’t match your storefront language, turn Show unit labels off. See Languages.

Add a countdown to a bar

In a bar campaign, open Behavior and turn on Show countdown clock, then set the End date and Time. The Countdown bar starter has it on already.

Hide bar when expired removes the bar from a page that is already open as soon as the countdown reaches zero.

When the countdown ends

The countdown end date is also the campaign’s end date:

  • The campaign status changes to Expired, and it no longer loads on the storefront.
  • A popup that is open when the timer reaches zero closes by itself. This isn’t counted as a close in analytics.
  • An expired campaign doesn’t count toward the Free plan’s one active campaign.

To run the campaign again, open it, set a new end date in the future and select Save campaign. To keep it running without an end, turn Show countdown clock off.

Starters with a countdown end 26 days after the campaign is created. Set your real end date before you publish.

Countdown or publish window?

The countdown is what customers see. The Publish window under Targeting & Frequency decides when the campaign may appear, without showing a timer. You can use both: for example, start showing a sale on Friday with the publish window and count down to Sunday night. See Scheduling and priority.

Bar messages can be links. In Messages, turn on Link for a message and choose All products, Cart or a Custom URL such as /collections/sale. See Announcement bars.
