Sort collections
Set the default product order for each collection, arrange products by hand, and how the Sort by menu works.
The order of products on a collection page comes from Shopify, not from a theme setting. You set a default order for each collection in your admin, and customers can change it with the Sort by menu in Metonia.
Set the default order of a collection
- In your Shopify admin, go to Products → Collections and open the collection.
- In the Collection items section, open the Default sort menu.
- Choose an order:
| Option | Order |
|---|---|
| Most relevant | Based on sales performance. |
| Best selling | All-time order count. |
| Product title | Alphabetical, A to Z or Z to A. |
| Price | Lowest or highest first. |
| Date created | Oldest or newest first. |
| Manually | The order you arrange by hand. |
- Select Save.
Each collection has its own default order, so a New arrivals collection can sort newest first while Bestsellers sorts by best selling.
Arrange products by hand
- Set Default sort to Manually.
- Drag products into the order you want. To move several at once, select them and use Move: To the beginning, To the end, or enter a number in To position.
- Select Save.
Tips for jewelry stores:
- Put your hero pieces and best photographed products first. The first row is what customers see without scrolling.
- If you use Promo tile blocks in the Collection section, check where they land. Show after product counts products in the order shown, so a tile after product 2 sits next to whatever is second in your sort order.
- Collections with many products are easier to manage with an automated order (for example Best selling) plus a small curated collection for featured pieces.
The Sort by menu in Metonia
The Sort by menu sits in the toolbar above the product grid, next to the product count. It also appears inside the Filter and sort drawer.
- It opens on the collection’s default order.
- In the toolbar, choosing an option updates the product grid right away, without a full page reload. Active filters are kept. In the drawer, the new order applies when customers select Apply.
- The option names (such as Featured, Best selling and Price, low to high) come from Shopify and are translated automatically into your store’s languages. They can’t be renamed in the theme.
The sort choice is added to the page address, so customers can share or bookmark a sorted view.
Search results
The search results page has no Sort by menu. Results are ordered by relevance. To push specific products to the top for a search term, use product boosts. See Search and product recommendations.
Troubleshooting
My manual order doesn’t show on the storefront. Check that Default sort is set to Manually and that you saved. If a customer has picked another option in Sort by, the address contains sort_by=; open the collection without it.
Products appear in a different order in the homepage Featured collection section. Featured collection sections use the collection’s default order too. Change it in the admin as above.
Sold-out products are mixed in. Collections don’t move sold-out products automatically. Add an Availability filter with Search & Discovery so customers can hide them. See Set up filters with Search & Discovery.
