Set up filters with Search & Discovery
Add, rename, group and order collection filters, and see how Metonia shows them.
Metonia shows the filters you choose in Shopify’s free Search & Discovery app. The theme has no filter settings of its own: you decide which filters exist in the app, and Metonia displays them on collection and search pages.
Install the app
- Open the Search & Discovery app listing and select Install.
- In your Shopify admin, go to Apps → Search & Discovery → Filters.
The app starts with a few default filters. You can keep, edit or delete them.
Add a filter
- In Apps → Search & Discovery → Filters, select Add filter.
- Choose a source. Standard sources are Availability, Category, Price, Product type, Tags and Vendor. You can also use product options (such as Metal or Size), product or variant metafields, category metafields and metaobject references.
- Change the Filter label if you want customers to see a different name.
- Select Save.
To change the order of the filters, drag them in the Filters list. Metonia shows them in the same order.
Recommended filters for a jewelry store

Metafield filters work with these metafield types: single line text (single or list), integer, decimal, true or false, and metaobject reference (single or list). Create the metafield definition first in Settings → Custom data → Products, then fill it in on each product.
Group and rename values
If your products use slightly different values (for example Yellow gold, Gold and 18k gold), group them so customers see one value:
- Open the filter in Apps → Search & Discovery → Filters.
- In Values, select the values to combine and select Create group.
- Enter a group name, for example Gold, and save.
In the same screen you can sort values automatically or drag them into your own order.
What customers see in Metonia
- Filter and sort button above the product grid. It opens a drawer from the left with every filter as an open group, the product count, a Sort by menu, and Clear and Apply buttons.
- Availability appears as a single In stock switch.
- Price has a two-handle slider plus From and To fields, with a note showing the highest price in the collection.
- Color and metal filters show circles. Metonia uses the swatch color or image from Shopify when the value has one. For filters with color, colour or metal in the name, values called Gold, Silver, Rose gold, White gold, Black, White, Bronze and Copper get a matching circle even without a swatch. - Other values are checkboxes with the number of matching products. Values with no matching products are disabled.
- After Apply, the grid updates without a full page reload. Active filters appear as removable chips above the grid, with a Clear link. The browser back button returns to the previous filters.
On the search results page, the same filters appear above the results.
Why a filter doesn’t show
- The collection has more than 5,000 products. Shopify does not show filters on these collections.
- No product in the collection has a value. A Metal filter only appears when products in that collection use the Metal option.
- The metafield type isn’t supported, for example a rich text or multi-line text metafield.
- Price in another currency. Shopify hides the price filter when customers shop in a currency other than your store’s default currency.
- Tag filters in other languages. The tag filter only appears in your store’s default language.
- Some values are missing. Shopify displays at most 100 values per filter. Group values to keep the list short.
If the Filter and sort button is missing entirely, the collection has no filters available. The Sort by menu still appears in the toolbar. See Sort collections.
